What is SWTOR armor weight?
If you wear a armor weight below your class's recommended weight, you will receive a statistical decrease. Classes may equip all armor levels below their own, but will receive a penalty if they equip a lower armor weight. For example, a trooper should not wear light armor, and a Sith Inquisitor can not even equip heavy armor.
Is there armor all classes can wear (Adaptive Armor)?
Adaptive armor can be worn by any class, with any armor weight type. It does not matter if your character wears light, medium, or heavy armor, they will not take a armor penalty for wearing Adaptive armor. Adaptive armor can be obtained through the Cartel Market, from certain special SWTOR events, from Social Gear vendors with the correct social level, and from Reputation vendors with the correct Reputation rank. Some of the common Adaptive Armors you will see players wearng include dancers outfits, Gree outfits, and a variety of items from SWTOR Cartel Packs, all of which are adaptive.
- Jedi Consular
- Sith Inquisitor
- Imperial Agent
- Jedi Knight Sentinel
- Sith Warrior Marauder
- Bounty Hunter
- Jedi Knight Guardian
- Sith Warrior Juggernaut
Light armor is worn by the Jedi Consular and the Sith Inquisitor. It often appears as embelished robes. The Inquisitor's robes are often purple, while the Consular's robes are often cream colored. Sets often include a long skirt rather than pants. Much of the armor does not appear to actually protect the wearer physicially, but is worn as tradition or comfort.
Medium armor is worn by the Imperial Agent, the Jedi Knight Sentinel, the Sith Warrior Marauder and all Smugglers. The Agent's and Smuggler's gear often appears very civilian-like, fitting close to the body for quick movement speeds and outfitted with pouches for all their tricky technology. The robes for both the Sentinal and the Marauder are often plainer, and closer-fitting than their tank counterparts.
Heavy armor is worn by the Bounty Hunter, the Jedi Knight Guardian, the Sith Warrior Juggernaut and all Troopers. Trooper armor is very iconic, often bearing a simple white-and-secondary color scheme and made of some sort of plastic hybrid and no cloth. Bounty hunter armor is very similar, but with a darker color scheme and tubes to feed the bounty hunter's signature identity-disguising helmet. The Guardian and the Warrior often have clothing that mix metal and cloth, allowing the Force to flow freely around them while still protecting their bodies.
Adaptive Armor can be worn by any class, and has no armor weight. It can range from being skimpy dancers clothes to heavy chestguards. In PvP it is often used to disguide a player's class: for example, a light armor Consular may choose to wear a chestpeice that makes them look like a Trooper to disguise their squishiness! It is also used by those who enjoy playing their class, but would like to look like another cosmetically. They can also be used for appearing like the opposite faction since they do not change appearance when traded between factions.
